i have searched throughout the threads with no luck so Im hoping someone can help. If i set my inventory to 10 in stock and I haven't set it to sell when out of stock is there a way for the customer not to be able to choose more then whats available, just to go to the checkout and be told that there is x amount available. im not sure if that makes sense but from a customers perspective i would hate to be able to select 14 of an item just to get to the checkout to be told there is only 10 and the cart has been edited, I feel like it should not have been able to be added in the first place. Any help is appreciated. TIA
Welcome to Shopify Community. My name is Olivia and I work here. I appreciate your question, and I can definitely provide you with a solution for this.
A) Many themes actually come with the option of showing available inventory for a product. Can you let me know which theme you are using, and I can let you know if this setting is available in your Shopify Admin > Online Store > Themes > Customize > Products section.
B) If this option is not built in to your theme, you can use custom code to add it. Check out this great post with instruction on preventing orders for out-of-stock items.
Is this what you are after? Please let me know if I am missing or misunderstanding anything, and I'd love to have a deeper look.
