Subdomain still says "setup in progress" after 5 months

Hello, please bear with me as I am not very tech savvy. My store was moved from an existing Open Cart set up to Shopify by an IT person who was hosting the previous website for me, but is now no longer helping. He did the transfer in July from my website www.canadiansugargliders.com to Shopify. Now the www prefix no longer works when my customers type it in (and it is on years worth of previous business cards, labels and promo materials). Under my Domains-Subdomains it says that "setup is in progress" just as it has since July. How can I fix this so that my site will work with and without the www prefix?

Dani here from Shopify!

 

I took a look at your store's address in the Terminal app on my computer, and I can see that it doesn't look like the CNAME is currently set up.

Did you purchase this domain through Shopify? If so, I'll get you to login to your Shopify admin and go to Online Store > Domains. On this page, I'll have you select Manage next to your primary custom domain, and then select DNS Settings at the top of the screen.

 

 

This help doc will also guide you through these steps if needed. Once on the DNS Settings screen, I'll have you select the option to Add custom record > CNAME record.

 

 

In the Name field, you'll want to enter www, and you can leave the Points to field as shops.myshopify.com.

 

 

Once you add in the CNAME record, your subdomain should connect properly!

 

Other than the domain, how has your experience with the platform been so far? I'd be curious to know any advantages or disadvantages you've found since migrating over.

 

It's great that we're getting this domain issue resolved before the busiest shopping season - Black Friday/Cyber Monday! Have you already come up with a plan for how you're going to take advantage of this busy time? If you're still thinking about it, I'd suggest taking a look at our BFCM toolbox to learn some different tips to leverage sales.

Thank you SO much it did work instantly. I've been fretting over this for
months and didn't know where to start. I've had a few hiccups but many are
from my end I think, with my previous IT provider leaving me in the lurch.
I was hoping to transfer my customer database and customer emails, but
haven't had any success with getting the info from my previous provider and
don't know if there's anything that I can do at this point.
As far as using the Shopify platform, I truly enjoy it. There are so many
options that I wasn't able to figure out how to do with OpenCart and the
customization for my website is ideal since I am as much an educational
source as a store. I do find it quite overwhelming with all of the
available Apps sometimes, but appreciate that they are there for me to try
and figure out. It's just too much to wrap my head around sometimes without
spending weeks learning about each of them.
My biggest complaint would be the usual dimensional shipping nonsense,
since needing to purchase an app for that is pretty petty, it hurts such a
small business like myself who is in a VERY niche market without that much
room to grow. I'm the largest in Canada and about the 3rd largest in North
America that I know of, but sales are only a few thousand a month if that
and having hundreds of differently shaped/sized products so dimensional
shipping is a must.
I find that there is a lot of what feels like nickel and diming fees, with
shipping especially, but overall I am quite pleased with my experience so
far and if the dimensional shipping were not an extra charge by needing an
app I would say the platform was excellent.

That's great feedback! I can definitely see where you're coming from. I've sent a feature request to our product team to look into dimensional shipping options, without having to use an app.

 

I love to hear that you're enjoying your experience so far! I can see how the app options could be overwhelming. Are there any particular features that you're looking to add through apps? I'd be happy to give you some suggestions.
