The variant.incoming object and 'Purchase Orders'

I am working on a template which I wish to show that the variant has incoming stock. In the admin back end I have setup two variants as follows:

1. Variant has 0 Stock, Continue Selling = False

I have created a 'Purchase Order' for this product.

The result is variant.incoming = false

2. Variant has 0 Stock, Continue Selling = False

I have created a 'Location Transfer' for this product.

The result is variant.incoming = true

For both variants, the 'Incoming Inventory' shows that there is stock incoming.

Why does the variant.incoming object not set to true when I create a purchase order?

Also, the Shopify documentation discusses 'Supplier Transfers' which doesn't exist in our Shopify admin.

Any help understanding this behavior would be appreciated.

Well, I also ran into this problem.

Waiting for support reply...

Yes not getting far with support either. I hope they do not intend to remove the 'supplier transfer' without adding the variant.incomin=TRUE to Purchase orders. This will break our theme, and all of the work out into it.

I resolved this issue using metafields.

It's even more user friendly I think. Instead of "Available on August, 30" you can set "Available in late August".

Which meta-field updates when you create a purchase order? Or are you using a manual process to change these? We have over 10000 variants and it has to be automatic.

Manual, unfortunately.

I have no idea how to make automatically without backend & additional API scripts.
