I am having an issue in a store where a customer can write order comments in the notes field, but unless the customer clicks the 'Update Shopping Cart' button, the order note is not passed along to the back end on checkout.
I have temporarily added a title to the note text field, asking the customer to click the update button before checking out to ensure that their notes are saved.
My thought on how to resolve this issue, would be to configure the "Proceed to checkout button" to perform both actions and update the cart and then proceed through the checkout process. But I am unsure of how to go about this, or if this is the best way to do so.

Hi there, I am also interested in this solution.
I am having a similar issue where I do a minimum quantity check and hide the checkout button if the quantities are not met, but I have found a bug where the user can edit the quantities after updating the cart and then progress to checkout as the code only runs during cart update.
How do I see the solution?
For that, I have to check your store URL for coding structure and diagnose the issue. Each and every theme using different coding structure.
