Liquid, JavaScript, themes, sales channels
I am working on verifying a domain on Facebook, but it has not been verified. I saw some YouTube videos and checked the code and it seems there is no <Head> in the theme.liquid.
Hi, @yanacph!
My name is Lilith, I'm on the Social Care team at Shopify.
Great plan in having a social media connection with your business! Congrats on getting started with that!
To verify your domain with Facebook using the meta tag method, you should be able to find the <head>
in any Shopify built theme (free themes) within the theme.liquid
file at the very top of that page. Here's a screenshot of my test store with a newly downloaded Shopify theme:
If you're using a 3rd party theme (paid theme) you'll want to double-check the theme files and if you're still not able to find the snippet you're looking for, contact the theme developer for some help. You can find the developer that created the theme by going to Customize on your theme and you'll see Theme actions. Click the three dots and select Get support.
As an alternative solution, you can also opt to use the TXT method to verify your domain. It's a lot quicker and simpler to do. Facebook has their guide on how to do this, but essentially you'll open your DNS settings from where ever your domain is hosted and add a new TXT record. Facebook has the information you need to add in there.
Since you're using Facebook as a social platform to promote your business, you could also consider Instagram as well. Instagram is owned by Facebook and you'll be able to set that up quickly after you've verified with Facebook. If your business is very visual and can appeal to an audience that wants to see your products in different ways this would be an ideal platform.
Keep in mind that when using social media, it's very important to not over-promote your products. The more you hard sell them on social media, the less effective those platforms will be for your business. This is why you'll want to have a strategy in place to create content that engages people and entices them to comment, share or like the post. In the long run, if you plan on running ads on a Facebook-owned platform, you'll end up spending a lot in marketing if you're not already optimizing your posts for engagement as well.
Your social media following requires a level of nurturing to keep them interested but will pay off in the long run because the more touchpoints they have with your content that is interesting to them, the higher your organic traffic will be. Free traffic is always a great thing! This also helps your marketing tools in Facebook optimize any ads you have running (if you opt to use ads) to understand the characteristics of your loyal customer following. Which in turn helps to reduce the cost of reaching the right customer through ads.
Basically creating a loyal following leads to a loyal customer base, which then leads to lower costs in ads and customer acquisition. This all results in higher conversion rates and in turn higher profits for your business! So the moral of the story is: be social, real, and engaging on social media.
Let me know how you do with the information above! I'm happy to answer any questions you think of as you work on your business.
