Which payment gateway are we supposed to use for a US based company that does dropshipping? The default Stripe seems to prohibit dropshipping (explicitly listed here: https://stripe.com/us/prohibited-businesses , but not here: https://www.shopify.com/legal/terms-payments-us ). I know some people try it and get away with it (for awhile at least), but what is the offical path?
Does Shopify have some special deal with Stripe where it is okay to do dropshipping if you use Shopify Payments?
I'm Daryoush - your friendly neighbourhood Shopify Guru! :)
If you are in an eligible country for Shopify Payments, you should be able to use this gateway for a dropshipping business as long as you are either using one of our dropshipping apps (i.e. Oberlo) or have an agreement with the vendors/suppliers. Otherwise, we recommend using a 3rd party payment gateway that is available in your country and of course compatible with Shopify. I should also mention that even though Shopify Payments is powered by Stripe, they are not the same gateway and do not share accounts. For example, if you are permitted to sell on Shopify Payments, it does not mean you can also sell on Stripe (or vice versa). When you activate Shopify Payments and add your products, we will always proactively contact you if there is an issue with your store, in terms of it being a prohibited business.
I hope this helps and have a lovely day!
