Add VAT number option in checkout

Selling wholesale we need an Add VAT feature and for VAT to be charged or excluded from the total calculation depending on whether the buyer adds the number or not. How do we add this to the checkout cart, without having to install and pay for (yet another) plugin?

I have the same problem... I'm also checking third party apps but it's also not very clear... I just want this for the checkout cart, I don't want the prices to be displayed with or without VAT, simply that when the user is going to pay if it's a company they can use their VAT number to remove the tax. It shouldn't be that difficult @Shopify
