Better Sales Report for Accounting

Hello Team,

I need your help, please!

I need to provide a lot of information for accounting / bookkeeping purposes.

At the moment the report which Shopify is giving me is not comprehensive enough and calculating them manually is so time-consuming!

What I need is similar to the full sales report but also containing the following info:
- Customer name
- Amount actually paid (less fees - shopify, bank, etc)
- Payment method (visa, paypal, etc)

What would be the best way to achieve this? I've downloaded all available reports and none of them are the right report.

I think there's a documentation about having a "Custom Report" (not even sure if this is also the right report), but that's at a price tag of $299 with Advanced Shopify.........

We're just starting out our business so we won't be able to spend much money at all.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Adi

Hi Adi,

Depending on what you use for an accounting application, you can also look into automating the upload of this data from Shopify directly into the GL. By automating a Customer Create and Transaction workflow into the GL, you'll have transaction and customer data uploaded into your accounting application with all the granularity needed by the accounting team - this will save your team a lot of time!

Check out our integration platform: www.VLOMNI.com - depending on your accounting platform, we may be able to help you with this issue. We're a Shopify Plus Partner and we're happy to go over your use case and lend some insight into your options. Also, feel free to email me at tlapenskie@virtuallogistics.ca.

Wrong in that this information is not ALL in any of the orders reports, and piecing together many different reports that use different assumptions does not work. Accounting needs ALL activity for a given period and there is no report in Shopify that does this (e.g. a current period return or refund related to a prior period order will not show up), or does it correctly.  I have been tearing my hair out for over 2 years trying to get the accounting information I need from this crappy platform and it's impossible. Data Export is too hard to use (and the customer service reps are in another country and struggle with English and common American terms such as "returns"--I have given up asking for their help) and the other apps are very costly. I cannot believe after all these years that Shopify will not hire some actual CPAs that understand accountants needs because your sales reports do not reflect correct accounting at all. SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PLATFORM AND WOULD NEVER, EVER CHOOSE IT IF IT WERE MY BUSINESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed.  The reports section is shockingly bad.  I had not idea, silly me.  Amazon's is a huge sprawling mess of a matrix but at least it is possible to create all manner of necessary and desirable reports that can be downloaded as csv and can be used for such things as quickbooks accounting.  Shopify's is kind of a joke.  A bad joke, but a joke nonetheless.

Hey @LOCLAIRE!

It appears that most of the information you need can be achieved by using Parabola to export your order data from Shopify and then manipulate to build a custom report of your liking. With Parabola's Shopify Import step, you can access data such as Payment Details: Credit Card Company, Payment Gateway Names, Customer: Default Address: First Name, Customer: Default Address: Last Name, Total Price.

Here is a link to get started with pulling your data from Shopify into Parabola:

Let us know if you need any assistance with getting your custom report built!
