Financing, tax rates, and accounting
A customer was accidentally charged tax on a sale when they should have been tax-exempt. Is there a way to refund the customer just the tax portion of the sale?
Hi, @DennisDuong94!
Welcome to Shopify Comunity. Thanks for connecting with us and sharing your question.
While there is no way to refund tax only on an order at this time, you can complete returns and partial refunds. Another simple way to address this would be to cancel and refund the order all together, and then make a new transaction to keep your analytics accurate.
In addition I wanted to direct you to another thread with the same question where a few of these viable options are discussed. Some merchants with the same needs as you have described how they achieve this, as well as feature requests are logged for the future.
I trust this helps, but let me know if I have missed anything.
Warm regards,
