Can SKU fields be scanned in Quickbooks to Shopify migration?

The documentation on the Quickbooks to Shopify site says "In Shopify, you can also attach a SKU number to an inventory product that's is searchable, but not scannable. You can edit SKUs in bulk using a CSV file after migration."

I am expirementing with this. I have our current Quick Books item number in the SKU field and nothing in the barcode field. When I scan the tag from the POS app it finds the item so it appears the SKU field IS scannable. Has anyone else found this?

Hi @klaneorama

Great question! The printer tag has to match the information under the barcode field of the product in the admin. You can also manually search for the SKU and the item will come up as well. So if scanning the SKU is initiating a search for products, it may show the appropriate item still. Feel free to chat with our specialist team about this in more detail if you feel that the experience you are having is not the same as our documentation!

I was told that as well, but some will scan!

I have found this NOT to be true. SKU is searchable but not scannable.

I tried to make the item number a 6-digit by adding zeros to the front and trying it in the barcode. No luck. Called support several times on this, no guidance. Tho I have been lucky with support so far, this has them stumped. Trying to not retag half my store...

We ended up keeping the item number as it appears in Quickbooks in the SKU field and added the leading the leading zeros to create a 6 digit number which we put in the barcode field. This seems to be working well. Tech support could not tell me if I needed to have a 6 digit minimum barcode and then never got back to meso I figured it out myself.  I added leading zeros in a spreadsheet (we have 13,000 products) and imported using matrixify.
