Enabling Shopify Payments

I'm trying to enable Shopify Payments for my store, and I'm stuck at the SSN requirement.

I'm a non-US resident but I do have the following:

- EIN

- ITIN

- LLC COMPANY ARTİCLE 

- US Bank Account

Eunice here from the social care team at Shopify. I'd be happy to give you some guidance on the SSN requirement for using Shopify Payments US.

The SSN requirement only applies to US citizens using a Shopify Payments account that matches their country of citizenship (the US). However, If you are not a US citizen, then you may still be able to use Shopify Payments US.

Do you have US offices, US retail locations, rented, or owned warehouse space in the US? If you can prove this, along with your EIN number, then please get in touch with Shopify support so we can review your documentation.

If you do not have physical operations in the US, you will not be eligible to use Shopify Payments US. In this case, you could either use a third party payment provider, or, set up Shopify Payments in the country where you are located, if it is offered.

I do reside in the US, but my store will sell online ONLY.

Another member of the community had the same problem and he managed to enable shopify payments using his ITIN/EIN numbers

Thanks for your response. 

If you don't reside in the US there is a workaround; If you don't reside in the US, but do have an operational presence there, then you may still be eligible to use Shopify Payments. Even if you sell online only, the most important factor is whether your business has physical operations on US soil.

If you do reside in the US, there is no workaround. You must have an SSN number to use Shopify Payments and there is no bypass for this. The thread you saw within the community may be outdated, feel free to send it to me and I shall take a look.

Hi Eunice,

I am a non US resident. Therefore, I do not have an SSN. But I have my business formed in the USA. I have a USA business address. In addition, I have applied for EIN as well. But due to covid situation, it will take almost 8 week to receive the EIN from IRS. Can I not be able to use the shopify payment in this senario? Need your advise on this.
