Entire 9 Digits for SSN and it is in clear text?

Why do Shopify ask the entire 9 digits SSN in clear text? Most entities ask for the last 4 digits.  This is security flaw and issue to the system.  Is there a way to put the last 4 digits only?

We ask for the nine digits of your SSN to ensure that the person applying for an account or service is who they claim to be, as well as for tax information and purposes.

Hi Emily,

I do understand the reason why.  The problem why you put a sensitive information it shouldn't be in clear text. It should be like when you put your password in asterisk form.
