Financing, tax rates, and accounting
To whom it may concern,
As a customer shopping with multiple different merchants that use Shopify (e.g. Xebec, Uncharted Supply Co, etc.), I would like to be able to use any order confirmation page and/or email to file claims for company benefits, business taxes, and more. For this to happen, I need proof of purchase that specifies the date the order was placed for audits. While Shopify does have a way for merchants to generate invoices for customers, as a customer shopping for these merchants, these merchants do not allow customers to receive those invoices. Thus, as a customer, I've had to rely on order confirmation emails and order confirmation pages sent by Shopify as proof of purchase. I've had claims rejected from my company because Shopify does not create proper order confirmation pages or order confirmation emails mentioning an order date on them. This is extremely frustrating since benefits and taxes can only be claimed if an order was placed within a certain timeframe specified in the benefit policy. Since I can't prove that with Shopify-generated order confirmation pages or order confirmation emails, I cannot reliably shop at specific merchants that use Shopify for items that require proof of purchase.
As an example, my company provides me a "Wellness" benefit that would only be paid out within the month it was purchased. To claim this benefit, I would need to submit proof of purchase of qualified items that were purchased within the first year of my employment. I go ahead and purchase camping supplies from Uncharted Supply Co. since camping supplies are included as part of the benefit. When I go to see the order confirmation email, the confirmation email does have the order date in the email. When I go to the linked order confirmation page, that page also does not have the order date as part of the confirmation page. As a result, any claims I file for this "Wellness" benefit get rejected since there is no order confirmation date on any proof of purchase communications from Spotify. Sometimes I cannot absorb the whole cost of the camping supplies without the benefit so I issue a return to the merchant to cut my losses. This hurts both me and the merchant, as I cannot enjoy my benefit and the merchant cannot make a sale.
Please allow the order date to be shown by default on order confirmation emails and pages for all merchants so that this does not affect anyone else who needs proof of purchase documents requiring a timestamp. For receipts that I've seen from in-person stores, bills from utility providers, and even mom-and-pop shops, having the timestamp of when the order was placed is one of the most basic but essential pieces of information provided on these receipts.
It's great that for an order you provide other details such as
- Contact Information
- Order Location
- Shipping Address
- Shipping Method
- Payment Method
- Billing Address
- Order Confirmed!
But it would be amazing if you could include "Date Order Placed" as well on the order confirmation page and email just so both of these documents could be properly used to file claims...
