Financing, tax rates, and accounting
I received the email from Shopify this morning regarding the new fix for having some items non-taxable over the next couple months. I have not been using categories and am a bit unfamiliar, but I understand the basic concept. However I went into my bulk editor today to make the necessary chanages, and many of the suggested categories are not programmed into Shopify, meaning they do not come up as suggestions when I type in a keyword. I am assuming these are the exact categories that should be used in order for Shopify to properly switch these to zero-rated on Saturday. But when I type in Children, for example, the suggested "Children's Clothing & Footwear" category is non-existent. I spent some time on chat with Shopify help but did not receive any advice that was informed - they just said the categories in the email were a suggestion. Anyone suggestions on how to move past this would be very appreciated!
I just checked and most of the categories mentioned in the email do not exist. There isn't a Children's Clothing only baby and toddler clothing.
Nothing comes up as an option for Children's Clothing. I have been back and forth with support and they still seem to be suggesting a collection with a Tax Override, which I understand is a workaround, but is not what has been suggested by Shopify itself in today's email. With only four days to go until this mandated Tax Break I am admittedly feeling at my wit's end.
I didn't get this e-mail. when did you receive yours?
I got it this morning at 9am. Weirdly, I can't find any reference to it anywhere online. But the photo I attached above is a screenshot of the email. It is from email@email.shopify.com
Apologies for any confusion.

Thank you! Confirming - we are a BC based business and have some items that will have no tax during this period (ie. food and kids clothes) but some that will still have 7% PST (like puzzles). Categorizing our items using this guide will sallow those items to retain their PST at point of sale?
That’s right. Only GST/HST are zero rated.
how do we test the functionality before the live date?
