Financing, tax rates, and accounting
Hello I am in need of assistance adding Excise to my orders within a collection. I am selling Fishing Lures that have another Federal Tax. Shopify has automated adding states sale tax but I want to add the 10% on top of the sales tax. It there a way to add the 10% without doing a manual set up for each state?
Hello @Gavisfly ,
You can try to follow these steps:
1. Go to Online Store -> Setting -> Taxes -> Create tax
2. Enter the tax rate for your excise tax. For example, if your excise tax rate is 10%, enter "10.0%".
3. Under "Tax Zones," select the tax zone(s) where the excise tax applies. This may include all states where you sell your fishing lures.
4. Save and apply
Let me know if you need anything else.
Jen from TrueProfit.
Hello and thank you for that response. Will my sales tax be included on top of the 10% I added? Or will I need to to individually add sales AND excise tax for each county? (California Based)
There is no category 'Taxes'. There is a category 'Taxes and duties'.
I cannot find 'Create tax' anywhere in 'Taxes and duties'.
Hey, @RiverDingoLures.
Thank you for joining the thread.
If you're looking to create taxes, then you can create tax overrides and exemptions. However, as we we're unable to provide professional tax advice, we'd recommend consulting with a local tax expert to ensure that you're collecting and remitting the correct taxes for your business.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don't hesitate to let us know.
