How can I adjust sales tax settings for different states on my website?

Hello! I just started my business in February & I have customers in Florida,Georgia and Arizona.

My sales tax is registered in Leon county.
Every time someone from Georgia wants to purchase a product from me it doesn’t charge them tax because of their location.

I’ve noticed it only charges if they’re in Florida.
I need help adjusting this, where it automatically estimates the taxes depending where you’re at.
please help.

Hey @Genjac95.

Thanks for reaching out.

I appreciate the context that you have shared with us as that is very helpful!

Looking into this, if you have set up your tax profile within your Settings > Taxes and duties and have set your products to charge tax. The tax profile will automatically charge tax to the corresponding orders depending on your customers location.

With that being said, my suggestion is to check out our US tax reference to determine how the tax profile will charge taxes on your behalf. Additionally, we do have a great article that goes into more depth about How To Charge Sales Tax in the US.

If you believe that the tax profile is not charging taxes correctly, we can take a closer look at this. Since I cannot authenticate you for the store over the Community forums due to the sensitive information that needs to be shared, I am unable to view the specifics. In this case, you can get in touch with our live support by logging into your online store using the Contact Us page.

Once you successfully login - you will be directed to the Help Center. Select the topic that you would like assistance with to locate the options to Get Support and speak directly with a Support Advisor about the situation.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello @Genjac95 ,

Here is a detail guide for you:

  • Go to Settings -> Taxes -> Tax region -> Choose United States
  • Make sure that the "Enable taxes" checkbox is selected.
  • Under "Tax rates," click "Create a tax rate" and enter a name for your new tax rate, such as "Florida Sales Tax."
  • Enter the tax rate for your tax rate in the "Tax rate %" field. In your case, this would be the sales tax rate for Leon County, Florida.
  • Under "Tax zones," click "Add a tax zone."
  • Enter the name of your tax zone, such as "Florida."
  • Under "States/provinces," select "Florida."
  • Under "Tax rates," select the tax rate that you created earlier.
  • Save and apply

Hope this can help you out.
