How can I force a 19% sales tax on all US sales in Shopify?

We have a tricky tax situation and it's not possible to setup Shopify accordingly.

- We are selling our products in the US with a US warehouse
- We are a German company
- Shopify is not adding sales tax/VAT of 19% (German sales tax), because the sale is happening in the US. But since we don't have a company there, we are obliged to pay the sales tax in Germany(our tax advisor told us so).

But it's impossible to add 19% sales tax to US sales, because Shopify is automatically declaring it as "export sale" and is not adding any tax on it. This messes up our bookkeeping software and the tax is not appearing on the invoice.

Basically to summarize: how can we force Shopify to ALWAYS add 19% VAT, no matter what.

Can we somehow force Shopify to add 19% sales tax (included in the price)? Maybe with a plugin or something hardcoded?

Happy to help out here.  In the USA sales tax is paid on a state basis not federal.  So the IRS has nothing to do with sales tax.  Each state has its own rules for sales tax and it can be very tricky to handle.  Your tax advisor at home is not likely to understand the rules in the USA.  Many American accountants get confused!  

You first have to figure out if you have nexus in each state that you are selling to.  Usually that is based on the total dollars sold into each state or the transactions processed to that state.  Avalara has a guide to help you figure out nexus: https://www.avalara.com/us/en/learn/guides/sales-tax-nexus-laws-by-state.html

Once you figure out if you have Nexus in any states you will then configure Shopify to collect for the states where you should be collecting.  Shopify does the proper calculation based on shipping address so you don't have to.
