Re: How can I view the total annual transaction fees from all payments made from my store?

How can I view the total annual transaction fees from all payments made from my store?

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way I can see how much in "Fees" I have accumulated over the past year in sales from my store. I can only view under Finances > Payouts for each individual transaction how much in Fees were taken from each transaction. Is there an easier way of viewing this in an annual or YTD format?

Best,

Kris

Hi @skris!

Thanks for getting in touch! It is my understanding that you are wanting to see all your transaction fees for 2021. Let's look into this for you.

You should be able to view this by going to the Shopify admin > Finances > Billing > and then scroll all the way down to Statement of Charges at the bottom of that very page. Next, you will then click Transaction Fees and then choose your view, keep in mind with this view data is only available for 90 days.

A workaround is to go to Finances > Billing and then go to View all billing history.

You will have the option to add filter and decide the date range that you would like to see. This will generate a list of all your bills in that time range, and the transaction fees for each will be there! You can also choose to export the data via a CSV file too if you wish!

Just in case you wanted to have a look, here are our help center guides exploring those topics below:

I hope the above has been illuminating for you. How are things going with the rest of your website? What are some aims and goals you have set for 2022? I would love to hear more!

Hello,

Thank you for your recommendation! I was wondering if those fees would be under commission?

Thanks,

It looks like this is not accurate as it does not show all of the fees that are listed in our payouts and the number shown for fees in the billing section isn't anywhere close to what we have paid.

I would like to find the YTD total of all fees from payouts and transactions.

It says this on the billing page:

Transaction fees

Shopify Payments fees are deducted directly from your transactions, based on your credit card rate. You aren’t charged for transaction fees on your bill.

Exactly right. They have the technology to give you a comprehensive report.

Instead you are getting a bill for obvious subscription fees, apps, shipping etc..

I should add for awareness: if you use Amazon Pay, they take an additional 2% for that luxury.

(Amazon charges you a separate fee)

Beware: the Credit Card transaction fee is hidden in your payout reports, all 365 of them.

Did you deduct these costs in all of your previous 1120s? I hope so!

Don't forget to include any refunds what so ever.  1099 always shows GROSS - before refunds, taxes, transaction fees, credit card fees, etc etc etc etc.  Shopify needs to get it together.

export by csv and it allows you a window date to choose (2021) and filter

This is an incomplete answer. Yes you can see a list of all of your periodic bills. Sometimes monthly, sometimes based upon a threshhold. You can add these up longhand, or you can pull a csv from your payment source such as bank account, and filter that..

What this list does NOT depict is the 2.9% credit card processing fee reduced from each of your payouts. This is not accounted for unless you flip through every single payout- for many this is 365 payouts. There is no proper way for Shopify to provide you a fully transparent report of costs. They make you hunt for it using all sorts of time. The purpose? to mask/camouflage the fleecing they are giving you every month?

If this is a new idea for you, look back on your last few years of tax preps and see if you forgot to account for the CC % you are charged from each payout! It's not included on the monthly bills!

Hi, I tried the exact steps listed here and the transaction fees to not show up as an option to click on and view.  It seems I have to open each transaction for all of last year to see the transaction fees listed.  This is quite frustrating.

Hey @ncav36!

Thanks for subscribing to this thread!

There isn't a specific report in which you can pull for this. If we are talking specifically about Shopify Payments fees, you can head into
Finances > Payouts and export a CSV of your payout transactions. This CSV should also include the transaction fee amount per order. If the workaround above is not sufficient, then you can use a third party app like the ones listed below;

I can appreciate how this would be beneficial for accounting purposes, so what I will do is, add this feedback for our developers to review. Let me know if there is anything else you need help with!

Just want to add my name to this thread - to make such an easy task so difficult, seems very wrong. We need to find our merchant fees for our taxes, ICYMI.

"There isn't a specific report in which you can pull for this." is ridiculous.

To have to go and find an app that I prolly have to pay for is also ridiculous.

**The Finance > Payouts and export the CSV** works but it should NOT be that hard to find out our fees. You can chose your timeframe when you click Export.

The Finance > Billing  > Statement of Charges does NOT work - I only see half a year's charges and not every charge at that...

(I didn't check to see if I needed to upgrade to access this info in a more-efficient way, but I would not be surprised, if this is the case. It seems Shopify doesn't care about the micro businesses anymore - they're too big now.)

7 months have passed. What's the word?

This is a basic and absolutely necessary report. Its absence is suspicious and entirely unprofessional. It'll take IT 20 minutes to write the query. FFS give me the table structure and I'll write it.

Still no proper solution for this? I also need all the fees including ALL payment methods. I am really surprised that shopify makes it so complicated. Now I have to collect different file pieces from different locations. I found nothing for paypal, so I need to log into paypal and look for every shopfiy order payment...

im adding myself to this thread in hopes they’ll eventually sort this crucial piece of information out.

@Maz Any update on this? I'm thinking about cancelling my Shopify subscription and running my shop on a different platform... I don't see the point in having to pay extra for everything, the subscription alone is already more expensive than with all other providers

I'm sorry, but I don't see this as a solution. Under "Finances > Billing >> View History," you won't find any fees related to the transactions made through Shopify".

Hundreds of changes are announced every quarter, but after 24 months, there is no solution for this simple and essential aspect of a business. I'm very disappointed with Shopify.

It seems to me like Shopify wants to hide the actual cost to sellers.

We can view transaction fees at "Settings/Payments/View Payouts" but it only shows individual transaction fees, no report. You have export that page and make your own report.

IMO very lazy of Shopify, and I agree with you, it seems as if it's deliberately hidden. Everyone needs to report their expenses and this is not convenient.

Hi, @PWM.

Thank you for reaching out!

You can find these fees reported by exporting the finances CSV file.

Please let me know if you have any further questions! I would love to learn more about your business. What type of products do you sell?

You didn't answer my question, you just restated what I told another user. Nobody has addressed the original request of this thread. Shopify does not provide an easy or convenient method of viewing all costs associated with Shopify. We have to run around and dig under rocks, and create our own reports. You don't need to know what products I sell; this isn't a chit-chat. This is supposed to be a forum where your customers can get answers.

Thanks for the chuckle, PWM. I understand your pain.

I had to figure it out AGAIN. And again, I had to go to Finances > Payout > do a custom search for 2023 > wait for an email to tell me the file is ready but I have to go to the server to get it bc something is quirky about the deliverability of shopify emails > THEN import it into my Excel > and do a sum of the 'Fees' column.

Because I have all the time in the world...

Hey Shopify, WHY this is so hard to implement within Shopify?

Maybe you don't want us to see the fees we pay - using these hurdles to try to deter the determined??

Can't see another reason unless someone else has a reasonable explanation - ?

I followed this exact thing, and there is no option to see transaction fees.

Hi @skris,

Keanna here from Better Reports. I would recommend our app Better Reports for this!

Better Reports has two built-in reports showing payout details (payout transactions with fees in each payout) and a payout summary which shows the aggregate fees in each payout with a subtotal by month and year. We can create a custom version showing the total fees paid for all transactions by year.

In addition to custom reporting, Better Reports has more than 80 built-in reports available out of the box that cover many common use cases for merchants. You can schedule reports to run at set frequencies to your email or Google Drive or export the reports in CSV, Excel, HTML or PDF format.

I encourage you to install Better Reports and start your free 14-day trial and I'll be happy to set this up for you.

What do you think?

I think it's great that you've built something that can add extra reporting capability for those that want/need it but I MOSTLY think that we shouldn't have to pay for an extra app to be able to simply view what fees are being taken from our payments.

Nearly 3 years on and this is still not possible? Shopify, I understand your underhanded motivation for making it difficult to see how much you scrape off the top of every transaction, but our bookkeeper needs to work it out anyway to balance the accounts, so could you just be a proper software provider and pretend to care about your customers a tiny bit: make basic reports like this easily accessible to all users.
