Financing, tax rates, and accounting
I have a Shopify store and my nexus is in AZ. What I have noticed is that all sales, no matter what county or city the buyer lives in AZ, is being funneled to the City and County I live in.
I know this is not correct, as I am legally obligated to pay whatever city tax and county tax the buyer originated at.
It seems like when I called Shopify to bring it to their attention - they were baffled as to why all my transactions were using only my county and city tax codes. They were unhelpful with a vague statement they will bring it to the appropriate departments attention - yet a claim was not originated.
Has anyone out there have had the same issue - if so, how did you correct it? If you don't have this issue - what are you doing?

Do you have the automated taxes turned on in Shopify? If not, it's probably set to collect taxes based on just your location. Automated tax calculations has to be turned on and then select the state in which you are selling and turn all others off unless you have nexus in them.

Thank you for your direction however, when I went to Taxes and Duty - I see that I am set up in AZ - I have my Sales Tax number - It says I'm automatically collecting taxes in the state of Arizona. idk what I'm doing wrong. I believe my Shopify account is in "classic" version. IDK what to do.
I'd suggest getting on chat in Shopify and ask your rep to review it. There may be manual overrides or something else getting in the way. Don't wait for answers on this forum. You might only get answers from guys like me who don't know much more than you and waiting for Shopify people to respond could take a while.
