How to Exempt GST for a Limited Period on Specific Products?

Hi

I’m based in Québec, Canada where we charge both PST and GST on our products. From December 14th to February 14th, I need to stop charging GST on certain SKUs in our store.

Is there a way to configure Shopify to exclude GST for these specific products during this period?

Here's what Shopify virtual Help Center assistant said:

To exclude GST for specific products during a certain period, you can use tax overrides in Shopify. Here's how you can set it up:

1. Create a Collection for the Products:

   • From your Shopify 

     admin, go to  Products > Collections

     .

   • Click 

     Create collection, and enter a name for it.

   • Under 

     Collection type, select 
     Manual

     .

   • Add the specific SKUs to this collection.

   • Click 

     Save collection

     .

2. Set Up a Tax Override:

   • Go to 

     Settings > Taxes and duties

     .

   • In the 

     Countries/regions

      section, click the country or region to create an override for.

   • In the 

     Tax overrides

      section, click 

     Add a tax override

     .

   • Select 

     Products

      and choose the collection you created.

   • Select the region where the override applies.

   • Enter the tax rate for the collection in that region (set GST to 0%).

   • Click 

     Add override

     .

This setup will ensure that GST is not charged on the selected products during the specified period. Remember to remove or adjust the override after February 14th to resume normal tax calculations.

This unfortunately only works with collections that are manually created and not using the "Smart Collections" feature. So customers with thousands of products and a mix between items that do and don't qualify for the exemption are currently forced to skim through thousands of items to manually add them to a collection rather than just applying specific criteria (such as "Category").  It would be great if Shopify overrode the feature that allows us to apply the tax override to collections created with the Smart feature.
