Hi,
I can't find the answer to this question. I wrote to the state of Indiana, but they were completely unclear and didn't answer my question.
Do you have to charge sales tax just because you live in a state even if your business doesn't have a physical presence? (no office/no rented space/no employees/no tax deductions for these things).
Thanks!
Hi @amibrain,
Hyde here from Shopify.
Great question! While we are not tax experts, we do have some tax information that may prove useful:
Indiana is a destination state, meaning you charge taxes depending on the state that you are selling to. Shipping is also taxable:
You can follow our set-up guide here:
However, if you're still uncertain as to your tax status, you would be best off consulting a local tax professional.
I hope this helps!
All the best, Hyde.
