Invoice for Shopify Payment Charges?

Solved

Hi there,

I was wondering where I can see/download the invoice for the charges that Shopify Payments charges me. I am aware of the invoices we can get from the Billing section, but these invoices does not include the expense I have from using Shopify Payments.

Example: I sell for €100,- on the store and I use Shopify payments. Shopify charges me a % fee for the transaction and send me (let's say for example) €95,-.

A fee is deducted for each sale I do, and this sums up to quite a bit over a month. I need an invoice for these fees. They are not charged to my card, they are deducted from the payments you send me.

By the way, I have seen the section where I can download the list of fees that I pay, but I am looking for an invoice for these fees?

Hope this makes sense and hope you can help.

Thanks,

Ivar

Many thanks Giedre

Oh my word, I wish we had that option!

Do you know which level of Shopify you use? We currently have the middle Shopify plan at $79 p/m

I can't fathom why ours would be any different??

This is becoming increasingly weirder.

We are on basic plan..

Same here!

I'm the owner and I don't have that option. So frustrating...

I actually have two Shopify stores, one on Basic plan and one on the middle plan and the option isn't on either.

I did wonder if it was a UK / Euro store thing and I notice in Giedre's screenshots that it's a store in Euros not pounds?

I've also been through all my users at various permission levels and none can see this option either 😞

Yes, we are based in Spain, so maybe that has to do with it? Still it's something that should be available everywhere.

Has anybody in the UK managed to find a solution to this?

We need the VAT documentation for the card processing fees from Shopify Payments and the only mention of fees I can find anywhere is the CSV report that HMRC are never going to accept.

Going to ask Shopify directly, but if there's a solution already in the community that'd be great.

This could be accomplished using our Report Toaster app and integration with Mechanic. Report Toaster would be used to retrieve the data on Shopify payment fees and then Mechanic can be used to format any type of PDF which might be acceptable to HMRC. Please let me know if you'd like some direction.

Hi there,

Appreciate your help. however, I don’t think the problem is retrieving the data on how much transaction fees we are paying (this can be extracted fairly easy into a csv file).

The problem is that Shopify does not provide an appropriate document (VAT invoice) for those charges. Its not up to the customer to try and formate one - this should be a formal documentation issued by Shopify (provider/supplier) to us as their customers. For example, it should have a unique invoice number that follows on from the last invoice. As a ‘customer’, its not up to us to so....

I am no further forward.

The address on the shopify mothly bills is Ireland and it has VAT registration numver. Not sure why they can't issue the same document for the trasaction fees.

Please do come back and update us if you manage to get in touch with Shopift directly...

This is totally a UK/Euro thing.
I have stores in the UK where I cant download these documents.

I have stores in the EU, and all the documents are there and available for those stores.

So frustrating to why they can do this for EU stores and not UK based stores.

Hi

We also desparately need this feature, however it appears as if something has changed within Shopify as in our payouts page there are no sign of any documents to download?

Is the above solution still working for you Ivar?

I'm wondering why it's not visble on our payouts page?

Thanks

This is most definitely not solved! It seems like whatever 'solution' has been accepted it only works for half the businesses in this thread?!

Please see the attached image, when we click the documents button there's nothing there!

What is going on Shopify??

Ive been told by Shopify Support that these documents are only available if your store is in Ireland... which is BS as I have a store in Netherlands that does show the documents. My UK stores cant see these documents at all, just like your screenshot Steve.

@Shopifythis isnt resolved and needs a solution!

Maybe all we have to do is report them? I had chat with Support as well, but eather they avoid the answer and talk about their stupid report 🙂 or they just hand up.
reporting them maybe wuld bring a change in a few monhts or so.

Hi All, this has been an issue for a long time for me. We still do not get invoices for the UK & US stores held by my UK company. Since lovely BREXIT we had to open an EU company & then opened an EU store, bizarrely the EU store has transaction invoices! This is why anyone showing Euro screenshots can download them. Maybe the EU has more power to punish companies for not giving invoices when they should!

I think we got to the bottom of this. You don't get a tax breakdown unless you uncheck the box in admin/settings/taxes that says 'All prices include tax'

We have the same for all 3 sites, all have the "all prices include tax". Support said we cannot download these invoices for the Uk & US stores as they are only available for the EU stores.

Didn't get anywhere with Shopify support but I've been trying to solve this problem over the last few days and have come to the conclusion that the transaction charge is an exempt expense and hence why Shopify doesn't produce a VAT invoice for it. Screenshot attached from gov.uk

Screenshot 2023-03-27 at 15.00.53.png

As an exempt expense, they have no legal obligation to provide you with a VAT invoice and it doesn't need to be accounted for on your VAT return.

This is unlike the software subscription charges which are classified as reversed charged and do need to be accounted for even though there is no additional VAT to pay.
