Financing, tax rates, and accounting
State of MN has a new fee (tax) called the MN Transportation Fee that business in MN have to charge .50 on orders over $100 that are being shipped to locations in state. The Shopify tax system is only set up for % tax rates. The response I got was to use a third party app (why when we are all paying so much already per month!). Is there any work around for this?
If this is the case, then this is ridiculous. They implemented the Colorado Retail Delivery Fee, why would they not do the same for the Minnesota fee?
I've been asking support and our account manager for the past 6 months about this, and no one can give me a solid answer except "I think we'll probably be doing the same thing as the CO fee". This is very frustrating, we need an answer!
Yes it is, especially since it needs to start on July 1, 2024..just a few weeks away.
If you don't qualify for the exclusion, you can contact Shopify support to implement the fee.
If your a retail store that sold less than $1M last year in MN, or if you're a marketplace that sold less than $100k in MN, you're excluded from being required to pay the RDF.
We do not qualify for the exemption and I already contacted support and they are the one who told me I would have to find and pay for a third part app to have it supported. Hence why I came on here to ask. Extremely frustrating and still have not found a way to collect the fee for the orders.
Hi everyone,
Is there an update/workaround regarding this?
Thank you,
Pretty quiet here. Does anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks

According to their help center documentation, if you need to implement the MN Retail Delivery Fee, you can contact Shopify support to do so. https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/taxes/us/us-tax-reference
HOWEVER there are exclusions for certain retails and you may not need to collect and pay the RDF.
You are not liable for the Retail Delivery Fee if you are one of the following:
Thank you. Did that and they're looking into it.
(not sure why they don't just do it for everyone and the client can check/uncheck with a checkbox..)
