Hey, I live in and plan to run my business from Australia.
But the majority of my audience will be in the USA.
The pop-up on my store settings implies that Shopify will clip 10% for GST on *all* transactions? Is that the case? Or does it only apply this to orders made by Australian customers?
It's my understanding that sales made in the USA are GST-exempt, so obviously I'd prefer not to lose that 10%.
Thank you for getting in touch. Using Shopify Markets to set different rules for the countries you sell to, you're able to use location-based tax settings to include or exclude tax based on your customer's country. This means you can list your products with GST included for your Australian customers, but customers will pay the GST-exempt prices when they checkout.
You can read more about setting product prices by country as well, which I'd recommend looking into if you're selling to multiple countries.
You're welcome! Markets contains tons of features that can help you sell to multiple countries and regions all from the same store, so it's really worth utilizing if you're selling overseas. Please let me know if you have questions.
