Financing, tax rates, and accounting
I'm hoping someone can answer this for me. When you go to the Payout Account, it is divided up into "Main" and "Sales Tax". I just filed my first return with the state, but the amount I had to pay was more than the amount that was in the "Sales Tax" section of the Payout Account by about $15-$20. I'm hoping this makes sense. I'm just curious why the "Sales Tax" section doesn't match what I had to pay more closely. Thanks in advance for your h

Hi there, @woodwardcandle. Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community Forums with your question around your taxes. My name is Imogen. It's good to meet you!
Just to quickly set some expectations for you, Shopify Support Staff are not tax experts, so we cannot advise on any specifics around the liabilities of your business in regards to taxes. We're also unable to authenticate users here in the Community, so we don't have access to any of your analytics or sales reports, which would be help to have as it would be wise to look through these reports to determine a potential cause.
With that being said, our Team may be able to provide some assistance into why this difference may be present, though I suspect it would be wiser to seek help from a local authority on taxes, and provide them with your accounting information from your business so you can look compare things. If you would like to see what sort of support out Team can provide here in identifying the cause for this difference, you can reach out to us via our Help Center.

Hi @woodwardcandle, did you use the sales tax report in Shopify to file the return? When you say the amount you had to pay was $15-$20 more than what is shown in your payout account, is that what the Shopify Sales Tax report showed you had to pay, or was that what the state of Texas calculated you owed them when you went to file the return?
