Financing, tax rates, and accounting
I'm located in Massachusetts, US. When I opened my Shopify store, I inquired with the Dept. Of Revenue about sales tax. I was told I'm not supposed to be charging sales tax since I'm a service, as I do not sell tangible property. Wanting to be in compliance, I did not charge sales tax on service. There's now an alert on my dashboard that I may need to set up sales tax in my state. Why is this?
Tried Shopify but they no longer accept calls and the help desk has migrated here, meaning Shopify just posts basic guides (none which apply to my situation) and any "help" will have to come from these community boards. I'm hoping someone sees my message. Thank you!
