Sending a draft order without showing the tax calculation

If a draft order is sent to a new customer, the draft order is created with our local sales tax rates. That tax rate and total is shown on the draft order email. The sales tax is then re-calculated only after the customer inputs their info.

Is it possible to send the draft order without showing a tax calculation and only have it calculate once the customer adds their info?

Hi @dmerch,

Thank you for getting in touch. I have gone ahead and tested this on my own store and can confirm that the behavior you have described is happening on my end too, with the tax rate not updating to the customer's location until their address is provided. I do not believe there is a workaround for this and you will not be able to send your customer an invoice that does not include taxes if you have set your taxes to be tax-inclusive.

I would recommend asking for the customer's address ahead of time, as this is information you will need anyway prior to you shipping the products to them. You can inform them that getting this information prior to issuing the invoice is the best way to ensure them an accurate price on their invoice with the right tax rates applied. I would say it is generally going to be a good thing if you can send the customer a complete invoice with their address and the relevant taxes and shipping costs included, meaning all they will need to do when they receive it is pay.

I hope this helps but please let me know if you have further questions.

Kind regards,
