Financing, tax rates, and accounting
Hello,
I run a business as a Sole Proprietor under two ownerships in San Francisco. We pay taxes, and every website we sell our products on has the option for Sole Proprietors to enter their SSN—except Shopify. On Shopify, if you choose Sole Proprietor for payments, you must enter an EIN. If you select the option indicating you’re an individual and not registered, then you can enter an SSN.
This has confused me because, as Sole Proprietors, we’re allowed to have a "Doing Business As" (DBA) and use an SSN. Has anyone else experienced this on Shopify? Which option did you choose, and how did you handle it?
Hi, @RainbowSushi!
Thanks for your question. You can input your SSN under the EIN field if you will be using your SSN for reporting purposes. If you run into any issues, I recommend contacting our support team through the Help Center. We'd be happy to assist with the process!
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
