Financing, tax rates, and accounting
I'm very new at this, and for some orders, the system is removing the taxes (see the image attached). Why?
The same is happening for our store and we are very confused by this, can someone from Shopify support dig into this, thank you
This is the response I got from them , however, some items weren't taxed correctly so I would just give them a call or use the chat feature to connect yourself with their tax team,
Thank you. I think I'm going to setup the taxes manually and forgo that automatic option.
Am having this same issue, it just started recently as well which is frustrating and it only happens on about half the orders. Some get charged the correct amount, and some get full deductions for some reason, cant figure it out. When consulting shopify they tell me nothing is out of the norm...
Hi - I am new to shopify and found this thread because I am having this same order right now. We you able to get this resovled to your satisfaction? Curious about how this landed for you. I contacted customer service and they are not very helpful at all. they said they'd have someone look into this but I don't have much confidence based on my interaction with the rep
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, I don't have any good news for you. The customer support basically told me "everything is fine and normal". I don't believe anything they have told me as for about 2 years everything was working great then one day it all flipped. The customer support has been horrible and not helpful at all, so best of luck with getting this solved!
Thank you for the response.
Yikes - what did you decide to do to resolve the situation for yourself? I appreciate any recommendations.
I went it and manually checked to see what was being charged per state. It still is not perfect and is really frustrating, but because of the lack of support I am forced to just deal with it.
This solution has helped with the amount of sales that are still being taxes, I would say about 75-80% are now being taxed properly, but sometimes it will not charge on a sale where someone buys from a place that has gotten charged sales tax before. Weird
So despite you making the manual adjustment some customers (the remaining 20-25%) are still not being taxed?
If that's the case, how are you handling that challenge? Is your business/are you forced/expected to make the tax payment on behalf of the missing charge to cover the gap?
