Financing, tax rates, and accounting
Is there a way to add a 'tax exempt' checkbox at customer sign up or maybe the cart or checkout pages? It can slow down our ability to fulfill orders if we have to wait for exemption forms to be sent to us via email. I would like to have a checkbox and maybe a file uploading element somewhere on my site where they can upload their form so we can easily process the transaction.
Hi @Parts2 ,
The front-end is one thing but how are you going to reduce the tax at checkout?
I’ve seen this come up a few times and would like to help. The solution I would build tags customers with “tax-exempt”, then uses an automatic discount to knock the tax off the total.
Yeah the customers that we already do business with and are tax-exempt I have the automatic discount apply but the problem is when we have a new customer buy something. Right now they need to email us separately, send us the form and then we can go back and refund them the taxes and then put their account as tax exempt. It's just a lot to keep up with. I put the upload-lift app on my cart page so they can upload it, now I just need to add some css or something to make the field smaller
Hello 👋
It looks like you've already decided to add the field to your order level and not at the customer registration level, so ignore this if it's not helpful.
We have a lot of stores use Customer Fields for uploading VAT/Tax Id numbers in their customer registration forms. The power here would come from being able to have the tax-exempt customers automatically tagged by the app. Also, the metafields can be renamed to match whatever CRM you're using.
Just giving you another option 😊
That could work also, how do I go about doing that
Just download the app and choose the "Wholesales/B2B" template and then follow the instructions for installation.
If you run into any trouble at all, our customer support team is pretty legendary (in a good way).
To be more clear @Parts2 and @Benjamen, I think the real value of Customer Fields here is the tax exempt status field. If your customer checks this box at registration, then they will automatically be marked as "tax exempt" in Shopify.
Hi @Parts2 , If you want to sell B2B to other EU countries and want to be able to do VAT exemption I highly recommend trying OO EU Tax exemption. See: https://apps.shopify.com/oo-eu-tax-exemption customers can fill in and validate their VAT ID themselves in the checkout and VAT is automatically exempted from the order.
