Financing, tax rates, and accounting
Hi,
If my store is located in Thailand but I have friends who are in the US and can ship my product within the USA. (all my product already in US) Is there any extra Taxes or regulation that I should know? Or does shopify will calculate Taxes.
Hi, @Hachiban
Thanks for posting to the forums. That's a great question!
If your store is located in Thailand and your products are already in the US, you will need to consider the tax and regulatory requirements in both Thailand and the US. While I'm not a tax professional, and it's important to speak to a tax specialist, I can provide a bit of insight.
In the US, sales tax is generally applied based on the sellers location, as well as the customer's address. If your US-based friends will be shipping the products directly to customers, generally you will need to collect and remit sales tax based on the destination of the customer. Each state however, is slightly different. You may also need to register for sales tax in each state where you have sales tax nexus(where your friends are located.)
Shopify can help you calculate taxes on your sales, but you will need to ensure that you are complying with all applicable tax and regulatory requirements. As mentioned, you definitely want to consult with a tax professional or lawyer to ensure that you are complying with all relevant requirements.
In the meantime, as it appears you are new to Shopify, make sure to check out the guides provided above, as well as our launch checklist. This will ensure you start your business on the right foot!
