Re: Total Sales is Different compared to Payout

Total Sales is Different compared to Payout

I might be calculating something wrong, but I was adding up all my expenses for my store's profit and it appears that my Payouts are off by a good amount Compared to my Total Sales. I know there are fees associated with processing and I can see those but I cannot seem to find where the rest of the amount is being taken from. I am making sure I am adding for the same month. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there, @Chevelleguy572. Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community with your situation here. It's great to meet you! I'm happy to take some time to assist you with this question.

When things like this happen, it's usually because you have sales that are being processed through multiple processors (think Shopify Payments and PayPal). When you view your payouts within Shopify, if you have any payouts coming from a different processor, such as PayPal, those payouts don't appear listed within your Shopify Admin, as they're handled by a different processor. You can actually check your Analytics Reports to see what payment methods are used, like PayPal, and see if that is where the difference your noticing is appearing.

If you do some digging and are still unable to determine what's causing the difference, you can reach out to our Live Team using this link. Our Team will be able to authenticate you, and then login to your account, where they will be able to look into your payouts in more detail and help find the issue.

Hi Chevelleguy572,

I'm currently having the same issue, so naturally, I went searching and found this post.
I know its a few years on, but I found the reason my payouts are significantly less compared to total sales... I hope you're sitting down.
Shopify has not been payout out the taxes and shipping revenue charged to my customers. They've been paying out the pre-tax amount for the products only.

So far, I have found they owe me and my business approx AUD$30,000.

Now the fun part begins. They're claiming that the "Shipping Revenue" is actually shipping charges, which I fully dispute because I receive separate bills if I create a shipping label in Shopify (I no longer do this, but at the time, I was).
They're also claiming to pay the tax on my behalf to the Australian Tax Office. However, this is nearly impossible because they do not have my Aust. Business Number. They also don't know how much to pay...

Funny isn't it... they got caught, and I've proved it several different ways... but they're still fighting!

I hope you don't have the issues anymore, but if you do, I hope this helps.

Found this post because my accountants are flagging exactly this issues. Money deposited to bank account is substantially less around £15,000 than shopify have declared in their payout reports for shopify derived payments. we have accounted for third party payment sources such as Paypal or eBay derived orders. We have looked at every possible metric and it clearly shows that Shopify has deposited less than they claim in the total payout. If shopify are saying they deposited X but our bank account says Y and they do not match then shopify has to be in error what other explanation is there?

Did you get any further with shopify on this matter?

Trying to deal with Shopify support is extremely painful. They don't respond, and when they do, it is a generic and scripted response.... they don't want to help!

Essentially, no, I haven't been able to resolve it with Shopify yet - however I am still pushing.

It is rightfully your money, so it owed to you. Don't let them use excuses like they did with me!
