I was told if you only accept payments from online store in canadian currency then you don’t have to charge taxes in other countries because it would be as if the customer would visit Canada and buy goods but it’s online.

I personally don’t believe this is true at all but have anyone also here things like these going around

Hello, @skytowner11.

Elias here with Shopify Support. It’s great that you’re working on setting up your taxes. As a business owner, this is a really important step.

The Government of Canada actually has a great resource on Charging and collecting sales tax I recommend checking out. This guide should provide some further insight into whether you should be charging sales tax. If you navigate down the page, you will see a section for ‘Foreign customers (outside of Canada)’. That being said, we are not qualified to provide tax advice, so it may still be best to check with a qualified tax professional and ensure you are adhering to your local requirements.

You can also take a look at our ‘Taxes’ guide, which has a section for Canadian taxes and explains how you can set these up within the Tax settings of your Admin.

I hope this helps clarify your question. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with!
