Financing, tax rates, and accounting
Things I wish I had known when I was doing the switch from QB POS to Shopify POS. I am coming at this from a standpoint of wasted time. It is not that I regret the switch.
1. There is conflicting information on how to handle issues when searching Shopify help. For a while I thought I was tripping. I would follow instructions available in one area of Shopify Help and it would not solve the issues. Then, I'd see another solution, etc. Finally, we had a meeting with 2 other tech people to help us overcome a few issues. They both agreed there is conflicting information. So, we had to go the trial and error route to find a solutions.
2. There are no accurate QB migration videos available for multi-store locations.
3. There are no thorough staff training videos. One on one staff training from the beginning.
4. I would have mapped my locations while on the phone with Shopify. The expectation that I would should know store 2 = Qty 1 and store 3 = Qty 2, store 4 = Qty 3 still baffles me. Also, we added a store location that did not have inventory assigned. We should have done that after the QB migration because you cannot have a location without inventory (it adds inventory to that location anyway).
5. Rather than keeping online store and POS separate (as suggested by Shopify), I should have taken the extra time to go into online store, add other locations and update inventory counts.
6. Duplicate products appear randomly. I was told entering the barcode in the SKU causes an error message. Not consistently.
We go live tomorrow....
Thanks for sharing this.
One other thing for merchants to consider if switching over from Quickbooks is with regards to "charge on accounts". This app can help with this: https://apps.shopify.com/credit-charge-account-on-pos
Here is also another resource on Shopify POS and a walkthrough of performing charges on account: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B2s6c3vDMzQDbFOQTO6J-fHJAfXOrx2WuoUFMYWpCrw/edit
As well, for merchants who currently sell products in fractional quantities or by weight in Quickbooks, this app helps you accomplish it in Shopify POS: https://apps.shopify.com/pos-fractional-quantities
Going live went great. Only issue, there was a hiccup with one of 6 cc readers that would not charge. Other than that, the fact there is not a good training video nor training mode for employees to practice ringing up sales caused a few employees to have anxiety.
