Why can't I submit my SSN and LLC name for verification on Shopify?

1 0 0

We are a sole proprietor LLC and therefore do not have an EIN. We are not required to have an EIN to operate this type of business and we sell pay taxes and are verified on other platforms. The Shopify form is not allowing submission of my SSN and LLC name for verification. I reached out to support and detailed that the business does not have an EIN for the reason stated above the response I received from Shopify was to submit verification of my EIN. This is the third day I've been working on this. Can someone please explain this to me.

Hey @BrianWorrall,

Thanks for reaching out in our Community forums and for sharing your concern, I’d be happy to help.

I can empathize with you as I understand wanting to get your business on the road as soon as possible. You are required to provide Shopify with a business tax number (whether that's an SSN or EIN) when setting up Shopify Payments in the USA.

Shopify Payments does require a person (your name) to be on the account as a representative (even if you are an LLC), as this gives you the authority on the account, and provides us and our banking partners a way to verify the account.

The error "EIN Does Not Match" comes up when the system is trying to match the business entity name and tax ID (EIN) against the IRS database. If the issue still persists, we’ll need to access your account in order to gather more information. We’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit our Help Center and log in to your account to create a support request.
