Why did my monthly subscription cost suddenly increase?

Has anyone else noticed a high price increase on their monthly subscription? I contacted shopify about this but they can't even give me an answer why I was charged $61 I've never paid that before. Kind of wrong for them to just take your money without proper notification. It's very frustrating, not the first time.

Hey VNT, 

There were some changes announced to the Shopify plans early this year's blog post (here). The changes took effect April 23rd so I assume that is why you are seeing the change on this current invoice.

Thank you for taking time to reply. I did not receive any notification about price increases but I appreciate you letting me know thanks again. Bit disappointing that most shopify staff don't know what is going on and can't give answers though. Thanks again! Take care😊

We changed our subscription prices earlier this year for most plans. All existing merchants on monthly Basic, Shopify, and Advanced subscriptions received an email during the week of January 23rd to provide them with a 3 month notice of the price increase.

Today, when we look at Shopify as a platform, it's obvious that we chose the right mission. Shopify now supports millions of merchants with the power and speed they need to compete in today’s ever-changing commerce environment. The economic climate in 2023 has changed significantly. Rising costs and inflation require us to invest more than ever to deliver a best-in-class product and experience to our merchants and their customers.

Although Shopify’s product has improved significantly, our plan pricing has remained largely unchanged for the last 12 years. This year, we've made adjustments to reflect some of those underlying costs. This is not a decision we take lightly. If you're unsure of why you were charged the specific amount of $61, I recommend navigating to the Billing section of your Shopify admin. Under Recent bills you can select your latest bill to view your exact charges, and you can check out our help document for more context on the types of charges on your bill.
