Why is my platform charging tax on tax-exempt clothing in Massachusetts and Rhode Island?

I am located in Rhode Island.  The States of Massachusetts and Rhode Island do not collect taxes on clothing.  All clothing items are tax exempt.  However, the platform is charging my Massachusetts and Rhode Island Customers taxes.  How do I handle this?  Do I uncheck all clothing items from taxability?

Hi, @soulfriendyoga!

Thank you for your post, that's a great question.

Sometimes the default tax rates don't apply to certain products, and if that is the case, you can create an override. You can read more about this and find the steps to enable a tax override in this help document. Essentially you will create a collection that contains all of your clothing items, and then create tax overrides for the applicable states so no tax is collected on those items.

I recommend also checking out our Shopify Tax page to learn more about how you can simplify all things tax using Shopify's features!

Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help.
