Financing, tax rates, and accounting
Hello,
Is there any way to display sales tax on just one combined line instead of multiple lines?
This is the first time I have ever seen something like this.
Our store is currently based in California, this was a test order shipped to California
Thank you

Hi @jgessentials,
Thank you for getting in touch. The screenshot you have shown looks like it is from the Shopify admin, where sales taxes will be broken down on different levels (e.g. state, country, municipal, etc). It is done this way to give merchants a clear breakdown of which taxes were charged on the customer's order.
On the customer's end, they should see a single tax rate at checkout rather than multiple rates to help keep things simpler for them when they complete their purchase.
Was there a specific reason why you wanted the taxes shown only as a single amount of tax on the merchant-facing side of things?

Hi there,
I am having same issue. I want to see it on just one combined line instead of multiple lines. on another note its happening to some and not all. its taking to much time for me to take a look at these sales. Making me think something went wrong that's why its showing up... is it possible to change it the way it was before?
Hi @moe6,
If you are seeing different tax breakdowns on multiple orders then I would recommend contacting our support team directly for more help on this. Once you've logged into your store and authenticated yourself on your account, our team can view the details of each order and offer more information on why your taxes are being listed as they are.

Hi! I'm having the same issue - and my customer receipts are showing the tax breakdown, not just one line of taxes charged. How do I change that to make sure that the customer only has one "tax" line, rather than multiple tax lines breaking down state, county, city taxes? Thanks!
Did you ever receive a solution for this problem ? I am having the same issue and it's very frustrating
This continues to be an issue in 2024. I spent time today reaching out to Shopify support. Their answer:
"This is expected behaviour because you are located in the United States, the feature that you were looking to enable is not able to be applied because of your location. for orders placed in a state like California, your customers will have multiple tax lines associated with the orders without the ability to combine them."
The agent I chatted with did understand that this is less than desirable and forwarded the chat along to development.
Just posting here to signal boost the need for this to be fixed.
This is also a problem for us as we are setting up our Point of Sale system (2024) and it shows multiple lines on the printed receipts. It is distasteful to see on the customer's end...
Is there a fix for this yet? At minimum, it should be combined on the printed receipt.
Yes, same here. Too many lines for the consumer makes the quote/invoice cluttered and confusing. Especially troublesome when selling big tickets (+$5000.00).
Has there been any solution to this issue? The multi-line taxes take up too much space on both printed and online receipts and prompt lots of customer questions about why they have to pay this or that local tax.
Hey there, @poppyspetaluma! Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this thread!
I've gone ahead and passed along this thread and the feedback shared here to our Retail Developers for their consideration. Many folks here have outlined how being able to condense the line items into a combined line would be helpful, so I'm happy to take the time to make sure our teams are aware of the feedback shared here. I can't promise what may come as a result of the feedback shared, but you can trust our Teams will be seeing this thread and the feedback contained!
Additionally, I do want to recommend that folks take the time to reach out to our Retail Support Team via the 'More > Support' menu in their POS App whenever they have feedback or questions about Shopify POS! These contact methods get you directly in touch with our Retail Specialists who are happy to receive this feedback and help advise on support questions sent their way!
