Hi Shopify Community Manager,

 

Great article on CRO strategies! One area that could add value in future content is real-time purchase optimization—an approach that some high-growth merchants are using to increase AOV and reduce cart abandonment.

Beyond traditional segmentation and static discounting, some retailers have tested strategies like:

  • Hesitancy detection, where discounts or incentives adjust based on cart behavior (e.g., time on page, repeat visits, modifications).
  • Behavior-based personalization, dynamically adjusting discount strategies based on customer history and engagement rather than static rules.
  • A/B testing for incentive effectiveness, measuring which discount structures drive conversions while balancing margin protection.

We’ve seen that retailers implementing real-time optimization—whether through custom development or third-party tools—often report AOV uplifts ranging from 20% to over 140% compared to static discounting models, and we would be interested to hear what Shopify merchants in general have experienced using any of these approaches.

Since Shopify works with a broad range of merchants, we'd love to hear if you've seen additional insights from retailers using dynamic segmentation or real-time discounting at checkout, and how they accomplished it.
