How do we know which Instagram page a session on Shopify came from? Right now, all I can tell is that traffic came from Instagram but not from the influencer's page. This makes it hard for me to know which partnerships are more effective at driving traffic and, more importantly, who is bringing in the highest LTV customers.
Right now you're flying blind. You need to track every click.
1. UTM parameters fix this.
Every influencer you work with should get a unique UTM link. It’s free, takes 30 seconds to build. Use Google’s UTM builder or any Shopify app that automates this.
Example:
yoursite.com?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=influencer&utm_campaign=emma_collab
Now you know exactly which traffic came from Emma, not just “Instagram.”
2. Pair UTM tracking with Shopify Customer Tags or Klaviyo
Track which influencer led to actual purchases, not just visits. Even better - push those tags into Klaviyo to track LTV by influencer source over time.
3. Bonus: Give each influencer a unique discount code
It’s simple, trackable, and incentivizes conversion. Stack this data with UTM traffic and you’ve got full visibility.
If you’re not measuring it, you’re guessing. And that’s how money gets wasted.
