Generally, in Shopify by default, you can only apply the Automatic percentage or fixed price discount off the Retail Price, not the product cost.

Here's the article explaining how to set up automatic discounts.

thank you

i wish there was a way for me to speak with someone at shopify direct...geez

there should be a way to discount the cost - its linked on a drop ship model with one of my retailers so when i get the order i get it at the cost value from a 3rd party drop ship platform

Hello, Michaelc1,

You can use Bulk Price Editor by MITS with Compare-at price Editor. Where you can do mass updates based on product costs.

There's two ways I can think of to go about this.

Product CSV Export/Import

In the Shopify admin you can export a CSV file of all your products which will list one row for each variant on your store. You can then use a tool like Excel or Google Sheets to modify the following columns according to your needs:

  • Cost per item
  • Variant Price
  • Variant Compare At Price

Once you have the modified CSV, use click Import button at the top of the products page in the admin. Upload the CSV, then select 'Overwrite products with matching handles.' and start the import. This will update your existing products with the new price values.

I would strongly recommend testing this on one or two products before you update your whole product catalog. It's easy to make a mistake with the CSV file and there's no way to just undo a single CSV import.

A third-party app

Third-party apps, like our Ablestar Bulk Product Editor, have the ability to edit your cost, price and compare-at price in bulk. For example, in our app you could quickly decrease the cost by 10% and see a preview of the changes before proceeding:

You could also do things like set the price to be a percentage of the cost field. With all these edits you can also undo them with a single click so you go end sales or fix any mistakes you may have made.

Hopefully one of these options would work for you. If you have any questions about either happy to answer them.

Best,

Daniel
