Should I switch to a US address for better market targeting?

4 0 5

I'm currently using a local address for my Shopify store (Outside of the US) but would it be better to use a US-based address to target the US market better?

The reason why I'm asking this is because my local country does not allow me to have app ad-ons like Pinterest and Twitter which are pretty vital in driving traffic to the store. So I'm wondering if I should switch to a US address so I'm able to engage more people.

Meanwhile if anybody has any tips for driving free traffic to the store I would greatly appreciate it! 🙂

Hi there, @Atlax.

Your store's location should be where the store owner is physically located. Many payment gateways will require documentation to prove residence such as government ID and utility bills etc. Selecting a country the Account Owner is not physically located in could result in these documents being requested, and possibly lead to the Payment gateway rejecting your store upon not receiving the correct documentation. It can even result in a store being frozen for possible fraud, so it is best to avoid doing this for sure!

Driving new traffic to your store, then converting that traffic into sales ("Conversion") can often be the most frustrating part of e-commerce. Luckily, Shopify offers a tonne of resources for our merchants to set you up for success! We have:

I trust this helps, thanks!
