Hi Everyone,

Is it advisable to use third-party calculated shipping rates when you are a drop shipping business? We have our own suppliers by the way and we only deliver within Australia. Our products are industrial items.

Hope to hear some thoughts about this. Thank you.

Hi, @ainsbee!

Typically, it isn't advisable for dropshipping stores to use third-party calculated rates for the following reasons:

  • you might not know which carriers the suppliers will use
  • you can't necessarily guarantee the same shipping times associated with some of the rates (for example, some carrier rates include overnight shipping or 1-3 business day shipping)

We'll usually recommend that dropshipping stores use flat shipping rates. However, calculated rates could work in your case provided that your suppliers can tell you which carriers they're using and can specify which methods/time frames they offer.

Shopify Shipping is available in Australia with Sendle. Alternatively, there are third-party apps that offer shipping rates with other carriers in Australia.

Hi @ainsbee

It is recommended to collect shipping cost from your supplier itself.

Hi @dropship_helps

Thank you for the answer. But customers paid shipping costs when they check out the item on our site. That's why we need a freight calculator that could match our supplier's freight costs.
