Has anyone testing this, getting sales by individual listing varients or grouping varients together? What works better?

To be honest im thinking about splitting up varients but still grouping them together and listing each item differently as a main image. if that makes sense.

Hi @Brian-A

Whether individual or grouped variants perform better depends on your products and audience, although data suggests grouped variants (a single listing with size/color variations, for instance) work well for simplicity and conversion rates as customers can see all variations without leaving the page. Individual listings (each variation as a separate product) can generate greater visibility and attract targeted searches, which could translate into additional sales if each is optimized with its own keywords and images, but could potentially overwhelm shoppers or divert attention from your store's theme.

Your hybrid idea - variant grouping but using distinct main images for each could be a great compromise, taking both approaches' strengths; test this on a small product group using Shopify A/B testing or analytics to track clicks and conversions.

My recommendation would be to start with a test of your hybrid idea for a month, then match up sales data to see what's best for your customer

Data indicates that grouped variants (a single listing with size/color variations, for example) work well for simplicity and conversion rates because customers can see all variations without leaving the page. However, whether individual or grouped variants perform better depends on your items and audience. If each variation is optimized with its own keywords and images, individual listings (each as a separate product) can increase visibility and draw targeted searches, which could result in more sales. However, they also run the risk of overwhelming customers or drawing attention away from the theme of your store.
Utilizing the advantages of both strategies, your hybrid concept—variant grouping with unique main pictures for each—may be a fantastic compromise. Try it out on a small product group using Shopify A/B testing or analytics to monitor clicks and conversions.
