Why does my domain purchase attempt fail?

when i try to buy a domain it say this and i dont know what to do.

Hey, @xavier1232! Welcome to Shopify Community!

 

Our domain providers require the billing information to only have characters in the English alphabet. This is why you're encountering this error. While this is the case, there's a workaround you can do to buy the domain and still have the special characters in your billing address.

 

What you can do is temporarily change your billing information to only include English characters until the purchase is completed. To do this, you can go to Settings > Store details and edit your billing address and phone number, if needed. You'll need to take note of the following when temporarily updating your information:

 

  • Ensure there are no special characters (e.g. åäö - ÅÄÖ) in your details. You can temporarily replace them with their counterpart (eg: aao - AAO).
  • Make sure your phone number is written in the correct format.

 

After you successfully purchase the domain, you can change the characters back in Settings > Store details. It will not affect domain renewals.
