SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
My Google Shopping campaign is successfully showing conversions within Shopify orders, but specific Google Adword campaigns are not. In the Google Adwords dashboard I can see conversions on particular campaigns but those results don't show in Shopify orders (conversion details). Often it will say from Google, but not the particular campaign.
I have set up the tracking code in the liquid theme, and also added the event snippet into additional scripts (as Shopify instructs).
Shopify and Google's instructions on how to successfully set up the tracking actually differ. Shopify says to install the event snippet into 'additional scripts' on the checkout section. Yet Google says install it straight after the first tag, in the theme code. Doing this however caused the tracking to go haywire (counting way too many on the Adwords dashboard). Is it possible to see more accurate tracking info from my campaigns?
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
Conversion tracking is not installed in the liquid theme, but in settings > checkout > additional scripts
That may be the reason of your inaccurate tracking.
So in the additional scripts, you install both the global tag and the conversion tracking. With correct values.

Hope this helps.
ok...so this is completely different from what Shopify says to do- and what we think was done by our developer.
We had google analytics installed first. What if the GlobalTag snippet is already in the "theme.liquid" Code? right under <head>
do we add it again in the in the "order processing" field?
conversions for google adwords/shopping are appearing in Analytics...just not AdWords
You can track conversion using a lot of methods
So you can choose any way you like. But make sure you only use one method to avoid double tracking.
If you do use multiple methods, you can simply remove them in Google Ads > tools and settings > conversions
Hope this helps.
You have done the first process correctly which is placing the "gtag.js code" in "theme.liquid file"
You don't need to add that code on again in the in the "order processing" field.
But to set-up the events snippets, you need to place the code in the Order processing section in the Additional scripts text box.
Also you can place the remarketing tag in your theme code.
I don't think that is correct Bipinchand. If you look at Shopify's documentation referenced below. You will see that theme.liquid is not used in the checkout and only checkout.liquid
Hence the reason that it is recommended to add all required coding in the additional script section.
And also checkout.liquid is only for Shopify Plus users.

I have a similar problem, and my hunch at this point is that it might be a bug with my Shopify regular account plan (above Basic, below the Advanced plan). I am trying to properly track my AdWords (google / cpc) sales in Google Analytics.
Currently, I see all the sales (transactions) that are coming through in Google Analytics; I'm also seeing my conversions (sales/transaction) tracked in Google AdWords; as I have both accounts' tracking codes set up in my Shopify admin.
The problem I have is that Google Analytics is not registering any "cpc" or "ppc" medium sales. The ones from AdWords are having the GCLIDs or something stripped and they appear in Google Analytics under the "organic" medium. Could that be a bug within Shopify, only sending data to one of the sets of tracking code in my checkout settings/additional scripts? I am able to specifically drill down to these sales also via the time of day, user geo, and conv value/revenue amounts. I've been in eCommerce 10+ years and have never seen this...help, please! (and thank you)
Have you linked Google Analytics to Google Ads? More Info: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033961?hl=en
Did you installed the Google Analytics Code? If not, you should install to track easily your Adwords campaign.
Thanks for the responses. I'm still confused! Just to clarify - my tracking in Analytics and Adwords is working fine so I can see that the campaigns are getting conversions! But I want to see the conversion information under the Order Conversion Details Section within Shopify so I know exactly what order has converted from what Adwords campaign - if that makes sense!
The code is installed in the liquid theme, and in the checkout additional scripts section as Shopify instructed to do.
Google shopping shows up accurately in the conversions details.
But the adword campaigns do not.
On Shopify ANALYTICS dashboard, you can only track the source/medium of the visits/conversions of the search and display campaigns only if you have used UTM parameters.
If you use UTM source and medium then once there is any visit or transaction from that particular ad, then you can see the data in the "ANALYTICS" section
Shopify Admin > Dashboard > Online store sessions by traffic source > then on the dashboard "edit columns" and select the required parameters such as UTM source , UTM medium then you'll get to see the data
