Attribution of customer acquisition

I'm currently focused on new customer acquisition - and I'd like to attribute this in a way similar to how Google Analytics attributes revenue/conversions (in the various Attribution Models or Multi-Channel Funnel).

A consultant I have chatted with suggested doing this via Google Tag Manager, but I feel like figuring that out might not be the best use of my time.

Are there any reporting apps that might be able to do this? From browsing the App Store, nothing mentions this explicitly. I have reached out to a few of those developers/sales people with this question, but haven't heard back yet.

Thanks!

Hey Ryan - did you get an answer on this? I am trying to do the same thing

Somewhat.

I used LeadsRx for a few months (available in Shopify App store), but eventually moved off it because the configuration was more granular than I had time for. But it was a pretty affordable solution, and it did give some interesting insights.

I'm currently in the process of getting started with Zaius, which should give insights here as well, though it is more expensive than LeadsRx was (but as it is a CRM and email platform, sort of two birds with one stone).

But I wasn't able to figure anything out with Google Tag Manager or GA at the customer level. You basically need an app/system with it's own tracking pixel or library (which both LeadsRx and Zaius have) to get this at the individual customer level.

Thanks so much for this, Ryan. Really appreciate it. What a bummer that this is so difficult!

Re: getting this to work with Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager and needing an "app/system with it's own tracking pixel or library." Did you find any documentation about this? We have the technical expertise on the team to be able to do something like this, I think, so I'd love to better understand what's involved.

Not directly (or, not that I have saved in my bookmarks).

But, in discussing this with a consultant, the gist was you need to create an ID for unconverted traffic (along with the initial referrer), and then after conversion, match that with customer email address.

Of course, with the blackbox nature of Shopify, this is very difficult to do without creating your own tracking library. The consultant I was working with had more experience with more open ecommerce platforms (either custom developed or open source), so that is probably helped to inform their suggested solution.

I went down a road of investigating GTM to do this, with GTM setting a cookie, and then building from there. But I didn't have enough experience with this to justify investing time into it, so it made more sense to pay for a solution.

Thank you so much, Ryan. This at least gives me enough information to be dangerous.

Thanks for the helpful tips! I'm trying to do the same for my own Shopify store so this points me in the right direction.

Just curious, around how much are you paying per month for Zaius? I can't seem to find pricing.

Not sure, sorry Troy!

It's priced based on site traffic, so hard to say. But keeping a starting price of ~$500/month in mind is probably a good way to go.

Hello Ryan,

My company ThoughtMetric built a Shopify app that does this type of attribution for social media marketing. We are currently looking at possible adding in other marketing channels as well. To use it you simply connect your social media accounts and your Shopify store and it will tell you which specific orders and customers were attributed to which ads. You can check us out here https://thoughtmetric.io/

I would love to give you a demo of the product and learn more about what type of attribution you are looking for, and how we can help.
