SEO, AdWords, affiliates, advertising, and promotions
Hellooo 🙂
I have a problem with the buy x get y promotion code.
I'd like to set the code so that it depends on the minimum order value and not on the quantity of items in the cart.
For example: if you have items worth 25€ in your cart we give you product X as a present on top with the code "xyz".
I was also looking it up in the Shopify App store but didn't find the combination of buy y get y with minimum order value AND the code dependency. Interesting apps create campaigns in the shop so that everyone can see the discount but I only want to give it like for example to my newsletter subscribers or Instagram followers who knows the code and is able to use it.
Does anyone know the problem and has a solution?
Kind regards from Berlin
Hi, @buahVal!
You can definitely create a discount code for this within the Discounts section of your admin!
You would just need to go into the Discounts > Codes > Create discount code. Once in here, you'll want to edit your settings to look something like this:
Once you have it set up like that, it should work as you're needing it to! Hopefully this helps, but if you have any questions at all just let me know!

Hi @Freddie
thanks for your fast reply!
Wow I was just working with the wrong discount type 😱
I tried it BUT still got one problem:
The minimum purchase amount refers only to the specific product that I selected above but not to all other products in the shopping cart.
In my case:
I want to give our pineapple (worth 4,90€) as a gift from a minimum purchase value of 25€. But the discount only works if there are pineapple tubes worth 25€ in the cart. Nobody will buy so many pineapples to get one free 😄 I want that the discount code works with a minimum purchase including different products (cranberries, strawberries etc.) in the cart worth 25€. For example someone buys 5 different fruits that cost a total of 25€. With the code you should get one pineapple on top for free. Is that possible somehow?
Kind regards from Berlin
Hi Risa,
thanks for your answer and suggestion!
I'm afraid that your suggested app doesn't work with discount codes right?!
Unfortunately, the discount must be triggered with a code.
Hi, @buahVal!
Ah, I see. That would definitely be a lot of pineapples for one person to buy! You're right, and I think in this particular case going with an app may be the best option. I've had a search through our Apps store, and I've found this one here, Volume & Tiered Discounts, that is free to use and looks to have the features you are looking for.
Give that a try, and hopefully it works out!

Hi @Freddie
thanks for the app you suggested!
I'm afraid that the app doesn't work with discount codes right?! Just the same problem as the app suggested by Risa 😞
Unfortunately, the discount must be triggered with a code.
Thank you so much for your help! I'm afraid there's just no app with these requirements 😞
Hi, @buahVal.
I see what you mean here, and I'm sorry that these don't seem to work specifically with your initial request. I just want to ask, how are you planning on advertising the discount? Is there a specific reason why entering a code is necessary, and it won't work having the discount being automated?
Most of these apps are going to apply the discount automatically instead of requiring the customer to manually input the code. One thing I would suggest for you to do is try out the apps directly in your store on their free trials and see how the app works, as they might actually have the features you're looking for that aren't advertised on their app page. Selly has a free 30-day trial, and Volume & Tiered Discounts is free! If you download them and directly look through the settings, you may find a way to make it work.
There's also the option of reaching out to the developers of the app directly to speak with them on the feature you need, and they might have some suggestions. You can email Selly at selly@treedify.com, and you can find HulkApps' support page, right here.
