Can I send essential emails to non-subscribed contacts?

Hi there, we need to send out an essential email to all customers, as their software purchases will need to be updated in order to continue to work. Some of these customers are not subscribed to marketing communications, which is fine and normal.

Is it possible to email every customer with Shopify's marketing emails, or do these always filter out non-subscribed contacts by default? I've seen a non-subscribed filter in the Customers section, which makes me wonder.

Can I use Shopify for these essential emails, or will we have to export the contacts and email them another way?
