Can UTM parameters be used for email marketing campaigns in Shopify?

Is anyone aware of some way to make Shopify email marketing campaigns from admin>marketing use UTM parameters? I sent a template test to myself and nothing had UTM so I assume no analytics will make its way to GA, though Shopify documentation seems to suggest Shopify reports will somehow know the source of the traffic. I can manually add it to buttons and text links but there doesn't seem to be a way to edit the link parameters for things like product thumbnail grids.

Support chat didn't seem to grasp exactly what I was asking, it seems like an annoying oversight on the platform unless I'm missing something....

Good to know that you know how to do it for buttons and text links. Can you share the liquid code here for the product thumbnail grids? It can help others searching the forums if you share what you've done. I've shared it before in other forums posts.

Sorry what? I haven't solved it and I don't know that we can edit the source code of marketing email templates that I know of. I could manually add utm parameters to the button and text links but I don't see a way to do it for products.

It turns out after the real campaign sent out (not test emails) that Shopify is using some kind of proprietary tracking code that is hundreds of random characters long, so the results of campaigns do show up in Shopify reports but do not translate to anything in google analytics since it's not using standard UTM.

This is bodes pretty badly for overall marketing data collection/reporting and it has me wondering if I'll use the feature again since the analytics are locked into Shopify. It's like Shopify decided GA isn't important anymore... right.

PS- I just noticed your signature. I absolutely LOVE your guides. The DigitalDarts GA-UA setup guide was absolutely fantastic and has served me well for years. Looking forward to more from you... some of the best expert Shopify content on the net.
